Transport Groups

The Patients' Council plays a key role in the Healthy Futures Transport Groups and much concern was raised by both staff and patients on transport throughout the consultation phase. Healthy Lifestyle

Below are the current transport projects we are working on to improve transport access throughout the north east of Greater Manchester.

Transport Leads

This group will work on developing a transport plan for health services related to hospitals, walk-in centres and modern day LIFT centres. This plan will be produced to incorporate the four councils (Bury, Oldham, Manchester and Rochdale). It is anticipated that this project will take between 12 and 18 months. Community Transport Development 

This group will work on developing a number of items such as, seeking to secure Community Transport Operators to transport patients to and from hospital sites crossing the current boundaries. Working towards securing greater flexibility when booking health related trips to hospitals/lift centres and GPs. Currently, plus looking at developing a community operated transport link service between sites which would run a daily bus service between sites hourly or eventually more often than hourly and the development of dedicated bus stops at all bus stations within the north east. Information Kiosks 

This group is working on developing an information porthole for accessing a total transport solution for travel between health care providers: Sub Committee - Joanne Betts (Chair), Paul Mainwaring, Beverly Gallier, Paul Haworth, Fred Royales, John Robinson, Neil Foley, Barbara Allen, David Cartwright.

Hospital Transport Access

This group is work on developing several items, such as improving access to the already limited car park spaces. Developing and improving transport information for staff and patients plus improving patient waiting zones for transport pick up, Sub Committee - Paul Haworth (Chair), Paul Mainwaring, Beverly Gallier, Barry Drelincourt, Fred Royales, John Robinson, David Cartwright, Barbara Allen, Barry Waterhouse.

Standard Mainstream Bus Services 

This group is working on developing a number of services such as improvement of current timetable by looking to ensure timetables meet with key times plus reviewing and developing better bus stop locations, by improving access for disabled, elderly patients and mothers with children. LIFT Centre Transport Development 

This group is working on developing a number of items, some of the early ones being to develop a toolkit for PCT’s to use when planning and designing a LIFT Centre ensuing suitable bus stops are planned. The development of both community and demand transport links looking at hot-spot areas where public transport does not travel and develop Demand Transport services. Bus Lane Development 

This group is working on developing a number of items, with the key project to open up bus lanes for Patient Transport Services (PTS) and to develop, where needed, new lanes.
